Volcano Warnings

Volcano Warnings

...from my upcoming book, "Scoopy and Brian"

One afternoon when our group of three

Were outside playing our games

Hide and Go Seek and Kicking the Can

And others with wonderful names

The bright sunny sky in all of its warmth

Slowly began to grow dim

Clouds that were dark began to appear

And I turned and said to my friends

“I think the sky is about to change more

I’ve seen this a time or two when

My dad says that I have to come on inside

And sometimes he says it again.”

Scoopy and Brian both looked at the sky

As it did darken some more

And rumblings of thunder soon could be heard

As off in the distance they roared

Then a man on the radio my dad had on

Spoke for the first time this morning

“Bad weather is coming, please go inside

This is a thunderstorm warning”

Well, we all got scared and started to run

First Scoopy, then Brian, then me

We darted inside and found my old dad

And all three grabbed him round his knee

“Dad, dad,” I said with a start

“Oh dad, you will never believe

The man on the radio said, “Go inside”

“Don’t stand in the yard, you should leave”

“For though it was nice, conditions have changed

From a glorious, warm summer morning

Bad weather is here, please don’t delay

For this is a volcano warning”

Well dad starting laughing, and laughed yet some more

But why, we just hadn’t a clue

Neither Scoopy, nor Brian or me for that matter

Could figure him out, now, can you?
