Grammy and Granddad Visit
...from my upcoming book, "Scoopy and Brian"
Grammy and Granddad Visit
I don’t know how your family is
But I had grandparents, four
My grandma and grandpa lived in our little town
And we visited them weekly or more
My other grandparents, Gram and Granddad
Lived very far away
But sometimes they’d visit us at our own house
And for a long time they would stay
Grammy would cook all the things that we loved
To eat, she’d cook more than enough
While Granddad was so very good with his hands
And go around fixing broke stuff
But we couldn’t wait till our bed time came
When Scoopy and Brian and I
And my sister Danielle would get in our jammies
And then we would all start to try
To fit on the couch with Granddad and Gram
And our sofa that was so very vast
As the TV would play we’d snuggle down close
And get very sleepy at last
Scoopy would snuggle with Granddad of course
Since they were both red headed fellers
While Brian, Danielle and I would all land
With Grammy and all of the pillows
No more could fit in, not mom and not dad
Could cuddle with all of us here
So parents would go to their own little bed
Just wishing they could be near
I hope they’re ok, they looked so very sad
That they couldn’t cuddle with us
But somehow I wonder, they walked hand in hand
And dad gave my mom a quick buss
But we had the best arrangement of all
Just we kids and Granddad and Gram
All sleeping snugly in one lazy bunch
Happy as six little clams
